Recipe One for AI assistants

Use your Recipe One recipes, meal plan and grocery list from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI assistants. Save a recipe from a link, find what to cook from your own library, plan the week and send the ingredients to your grocery list. Everything syncs with the Recipe One app on iPhone and Android.

Server address

Add Recipe One to your assistant with this address:

https://mcp.recipeone.app/mcp

It is a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP). Sign-in uses OAuth at auth.recipeone.app; there is nothing to install.

Add it to your assistant

  • Claude (web, desktop and mobile): Open Customize → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it Recipe One and paste the server address. Once Recipe One is listed in the Claude directory you can add it from there instead.
  • Claude Code: Run: claude mcp add --transport http recipe-one https://mcp.recipeone.app/mcp — then run /mcp to sign in.
  • ChatGPT: Open Plugins, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server, and paste the server address. Custom servers need a ChatGPT plan that allows them.
  • Cursor: Add to mcp.json: { "mcpServers": { "recipe-one": { "url": "https://mcp.recipeone.app/mcp" } } }
  • Other assistants: Any app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP with OAuth sign-in can use the same address.

Signing in

Two tools work without an account: recipe cards and meal-plan previews built from the conversation. They read and save nothing. When you ask for something that needs your library, the assistant shows a Connect button. You sign in with Google, Apple, or email and password (you can create a free account there), then approve the connection.

The approval page lists what the assistant may do:

  • See your name, email and plan
  • Search and view your recipes
  • Create, edit, and delete your recipes
  • View your weekly meal plan
  • Change your weekly meal plan
  • View your grocery list
  • Add, check off, and remove grocery list items

The assistant gets an access token for Recipe One, never your password or your Google or Apple sign-in. Use the same sign-in method you use in the app, so you connect the account that holds your recipes.

Things to try

  • “Plan five vegetarian dinners for next week with one shopping list.”
  • “Save this recipe to my Recipe One: https://…”
  • “What can I cook tonight from my saved recipes with chicken?”
  • “Put my lasagna on Wednesday and add its ingredients to my grocery list.”
  • “Scale my banana bread to 12 servings.”

Tools

Without an account

  • show_recipe – Shows a recipe from the conversation as a recipe card and scales it to any number of servings.
  • preview_meal_plan – Lays out a meal plan from the conversation as a calendar with one combined shopping list.

Recipes

  • search_recipes – Searches your saved recipes by words, ingredient, tag, cookbook or cooking time.
  • get_recipe – Reads a recipe’s ingredients and steps, optionally scaled. Scaling is not saved.
  • save_recipe – Saves a recipe written or adapted in the chat to your library.
  • import_recipe_from_url – Imports a recipe from a website, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook or Pinterest link. Uses an import credit.
  • update_recipe – Changes a saved recipe: ingredients, steps, notes, rating or cooked status.
  • delete_recipe – Moves a recipe to a trash it can be restored from for 30 days.
  • restore_recipe – Lists and restores recipes deleted through an assistant.

Cookbooks

  • list_cookbooks – Lists your cookbooks with their recipe counts.
  • add_recipe_to_cookbook – Adds a recipe to a cookbook you own, or creates a new one.
  • remove_recipe_from_cookbook – Takes a recipe out of a cookbook; the recipe stays in your library.

Meal plan

  • get_meal_plan – Shows what is planned for a day or a week.
  • add_to_meal_plan – Adds saved recipes to days in your plan.
  • replace_meal_plan_entry – Swaps one planned meal for another recipe.
  • remove_from_meal_plan – Removes meals from the plan; the recipes are kept.

Grocery list

  • get_grocery_list – Shows your grocery list with combined quantities.
  • add_to_grocery_list – Adds items, or all ingredients of saved recipes, merging with what is already there.
  • check_grocery_items – Checks items off, or back on.
  • remove_grocery_items – Removes items, or clears everything checked off.

Account

  • get_account – Shows which account is connected, its plan and remaining import credits.

In Claude and ChatGPT, recipe cards and meal plans also appear as interactive views where you can change servings, swap meals and save the plan.

Limits

  • Saving recipes: 15 a day on the free plan, 100 a day with a subscription.
  • Importing from links: uses your Recipe One import credits, the same as in the app, and at most 30 a day.
  • Deleting recipes: 20 a day. All other changes together: 400 a day.
  • Daily limits reset at midnight UTC.

Safety and your data

  • An assistant can only reach the account you signed in with.
  • Deleted recipes stay in a trash for 30 days, and the first edit of a recipe each day keeps a copy of the previous version.
  • Cookbooks shared with other people can be read but not changed from an assistant; change them in the app.
  • Recipe text comes from you and from the web, and assistants are told to treat it as data, never as instructions.
  • Recipe One does not receive your conversation, only the requests the assistant sends to these tools. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Disconnecting

Remove Recipe One in your assistant’s connector or app settings. Deleting your Recipe One account also removes every connection.
