About Recipe One
Hi, I'm Oren. I build Recipe One.
I'm Oren Haliva, the founder and solo developer of Recipe One. I'm a software engineer with 15 years of experience, and I wrote this page myself.
Why I started Recipe One
My wife used to send me recipes on Instagram. Watching a video, pausing it, and writing down the ingredients was a pain, especially for baking. I saw a lot of apps trying to solve this, but none of them could get the recipe out of the video itself when it had no captions.
Then Gemini released a multimodal model that could "see" videos, and I thought it would make a nice proof of concept. It worked quite well. Coding agents were just becoming a thing, so I also wanted to see if I could build a whole app with AI. I vibe coded the first version with Sonnet 3.5, before it was cool. Today that sounds obvious. Back then, it wasn't.
What building it alone taught me
It was a challenge, and I still love this project. It keeps me on the latest technology, I can ship faster than ever, and it gives value to real users. It taught me that one person with AI can build a real app and run all of it: product, design, customer support and marketing.
